Birchbox February 2014 Review

This month, Birchbox teamed up with Us Weekly to create a box inspired by the red carpet.  The box itself was decorated accordingly.

The box also came with an information card, as always.

My first item was Beauty Protector Protect & Oil.  This is a hair oil that is supposed to protect against heat damage, among other things.  The oil is more viscous than I was expecting it to be, and it has a nice scent.  I have fine hair, so I don't want anything to weigh it down, but I tried this out today.  I just put a small amount on my ends, and I think they look smoother and not greasy.  I still need to get my ends trimmed, but I think this product helps.  The sample is small, but you only use a couple of drops at a time, so it should last for a while.

Next was a Cynthia Rowley Liquid Liner in Black Ink.  I don't wear eyeliner too often, but this seems like a good one.  It has an applicator that reminds me of a fine-tip marker, so it should be easy to put on in a straight line.  I was hoping to get this in brown since I already have a similar liquid eyeliner from a different brand.  I may give this away or try to trade it because I don't use eyeliner often enough to need another one.

Next was Hello perfume by Harvey Prince.  With its floral and citrus notes, this scent reminds me of summer.  It has a "warm" feel to it, if that makes any sense.  I don't wear perfume too often (I can't wear them at work), but I like this one.

The next product was Juara Candlenut Body Creme.  I was excited to try this because my skin tends to get dry, especially this time of year.  Unfortunately, the size of the sample I received was very small.  I used it today after my shower, and it was fine.  The creme had a good consistency; it absorbed well and was substantial without feeling too greasy.  It wasn't any better than other moisturizers I've used before, though, and I was disappointed that I only got one use out of the sample.  I did like it, and the scent was nice, but I wasn't impressed enough to pay $35 for the full size.

Finally, I got Ruby Wing Color Changing Nail Polish in Ride 'Em Cowgirl.  This nail polish is supposed to change color when you go outside.  I was hoping that this would be a full-coverage glitter polish, but it is more of a glitter top coat.  I already have a similar gold glitter polish, so I don't really need this one.  I am curious to see if it will change color in the sunlight, though.

Overall, I thought this box was fine, but I wasn't wowed by it.  I like skin products, but I wish the sample sizes would be a bit larger.  The rest of the items were a good size, but I don't have too much use for them.  The products seem to be good quality, though, so I'm sure I can give them as gifts or trade them.

Did you get a Birchbox this month?  Which products did you receive?  What did you think of your box?
